Gao Xiaoyan

Gao Xiaoyan, who has obtained his Doctor of Law degree and done post-doctoral researches in sociology, is now an associate professor and a master supervisor. Professor Gao received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Lanzhou University, Doctor’s degree in Minzu University of China, and did postdoctoral research in Peking University. Moreover, as a visit scholar, he has further studied in Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota and Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey School of Social Work.

 

Research Direction Characteristics:

Professor Gao’s research directions cover public policy and government governance, public cultural management, public management and social security in ethnic areas, ethnic theory and policy, sociology of nationalities and cultural anthropology.

Representative Works:

As one of corresponding authors(2/2), Professor Gao’s article “Ethnic Minorities, Race, and Inequality in China: A New Perspective on Racial Dynamics” was received by American SSCI Review of Black Political Economy in April,2013.

As lead author (1/1), Professor Gao’s article “Culture Conflict, Crisis Response, and History Leveraging--Analyzing Anglo-Satsuma War” was published in the 11th issue of CSSCI core journal Pacific Journal in 2017.

As lead author (1/2), Professor Gao’s article “On ‘Familiar Society’ Beyond Ethnic Relationship Between Hui and Han through a Funeral of Han Family in Zhangjiachuan County”was published in the 5th issue of CSSCI core journal Journalof Northwest Normal University (Social Science) in 2011. Furthermore, this paper was reprinted in full by Renmin University of China Copying Press Information database in February 2012.

As lead author (1/2), Professor Gao’sarticle Japanese Wind, Korean Rhyme and Chinese Soul, the Cultural Landscape of Traditional Public Celebrations in East Asiawas published in the 5th issue of Social Science Review in 2019.

As lead author(1/2), Professor Gao’s article “Awakening of Aboriginal Consciousness, Hypothesis of Single Ethnic Group and Reconstruction of Policy Framework--The past and Present Life of Ainu” was published in the 2nd issue of Journal of Qinghai Nationalities University, which belongs to CSSCI Core extended edition journal, in 2020.

  1. : Pro. Gao presides over the fundamental research funds for the Central University Basic Research Funds (Social Sciences)- Subject Improvement Project: Research on the Development Status and Countermeasures of Social Security in Ethnic Areas Based on Empirical Perspective, with the project number of PTRW1818.

    2014-2015: Pro. Gao presided over the subject project “Socialization of Ethnic Work -- Taking Social Security in Ethnic Areas as an Example” of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, with the project number of 2016-GMH-011, in 2014.

    2013-2015: Pro. Gao presided over the 2013 Central University project “Research on Public Cultural Festivals under the Observation of The Cohesion of The Chinese Nation”, with the project number of ZY1353.
