The lecture was given by Ms. Yuan Wang, one of the 2018 counselors of SHL, and Miss Jing Liu shared her experience as an inviting guest. Altogether over 100 students from various majors attended the lecture.

The first part of the meeting was on competition training. Ms. Yuan Wang first explained the purpose and content of the “Sprout Cup”. As one of the main carriers of the construction of College Students’ innovation base in the North Campus, the Cup is an enlightenment activity for freshmen and sophomores to carry out academic scientific and technological innovation, thus having a great influence in the academic and scientific research activities. After that, Ms. Wang introduced the four categories of the Cup and elaborated on the similarities and differences between them. Finally, Ms. Wang referred to students’ mentality at different stages while participating in the Cup, hoping that they would not forget their original intention, always maintain their enthusiasm for innovation, cultivate their ability to solve problems and take the first step of scientific research steadily.

Miss Jing Liu shared her experience. First, she suggested that participants contact their tutors as soon as possible. Miss Liu attached great importance to a clear division of labor among team members in the process of cooperation. Miss Liu’s second advice was that great attention should be paid to highlight the research background, objectives and innovative achievements in the final defense. Miss Jing Liu talked about her experience in the competition from different perspectives so students at the meeting had a deeper understanding of the competition from multiple angles.

In the end, the lecture wrapped up successfully. After this training and exchange meeting, students gain a new understanding of the “Sprout Cup” and a clear goal to conduct research. They said that they would take this competition seriously and strive for positive outcome.

Good luck to all participants of the “Sprout Cup”! Surely, they will cherish the opportunity, persevere no matter what hardships they will encounter, explore their potential and do their best in this competition!
