The College of Humanities and Law was founded in March 2000. It is a humanities-oriented college with profound cultural heritage and distinctive academic characteristics. Our College consists of four departments: the Department of Law, the Department of English, the Department of Public Administration, and the Department of Social Sports Guidance and Management. There are another two teaching departments in the College: the Department of College English and the Department of Physical Education. The college also includes three research institutes: the Institute of Law and Intellectual Property, the Institute of Higher Education, and the Institute of Politics and Public Administration. Three bases find home in our College. They are the National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base, Beijing College Student Quality Education Base, and BUCT Intellectual Property Base. Our College also boasts five research associations, namely, the Beijing Work Safety Rule of Law Research Association, BUCT Environmental Safety Research Center, BUCT Human Resources Management Research Center, BUCT Social Security Research Center, and BUCT International Writing Center. All of the divisions work together and have promoted education and scientific research to a new level. The college has an excellent faculty team, with 152 full-time teachers, among whom 12 are full-professors and 66 are associate professors. At present, the college has over 1, 400 students.

The College of Humanities and Law adheres to the following educational philosophy: “Humanities make a full man and law makes a wise government”. In recent years, with the joint efforts of all faculties and students, our college has achieved great success in discipline construction, teaching, scientific research, and talent cultivation.

The Department of Law has a Level 1 Master’s Degree in Law and the Juris Master’s professional degree granting authority. It is a national first-class major construction site, a national comprehensive reform pilot major, a Beijing first-class major construction site, and a Beijing distinctive discipline. The “Simulated Court Undergraduate Education Team” in Law Undergraduate Teaching has been awarded the title of Excellent Education Team at the University Level, and the “BUCT Civil Law Virtual Teaching and Research Room” has been approved as a pilot project for the construction of virtual teaching and research rooms at the University Level. The Department of Public Administration and Administrative Management also has Level 1 Master’s Degree granting authority in Public Management and MPA professional degrees. Public Administration is a national first-class major construction site, and Administrative Management is a Beijing first-class major construction site. The Department of English has been approved of the program of MTI, and it is also a Beijing first-class undergraduate major construction site. The Department of Social Sports Guidance and Management has also been granted with the honor of Beijing first-class undergraduate major construction site.

In recent years, the College has fully utilized the advantages of multiple disciplines and constructed a comprehensive, three-dimensional and diversified environment for quality education. Students are encouraged and guided to actively participate in various levels of competitions, cultural innovation practice activities, all contributing to the enhancement of students’ humanistic literacy. In total, students have won over 50 provincial and ministerial level honors, more than 20 national honors, and 2 of the first batch of new liberal arts reform and practical research projects have been granted by the Ministry of Education. One student was nominated for the “National University Student of the Year” (less than 200 college students nationwide won the award), and one student was awarded the “14th Chinese University Student of the Year” (a total of 10 nationwide won the award). Outstanding achievements have been made in various professional competitions such as the National and Beijing Municipal College Student “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Science and Technology Competition, the “Beijing Foreign Studies-Wanhuida Cup” Intellectual Property Mock Court Competition, the “Qiushi Cup” National Public Management Case Competition, the “FLTRP · Guocai Cup” National College Student Foreign Language Ability Competition, and the “Wanke Cup” Chinese College Student Skiing Challenge. Individuals and groups have been awarded the “National Party Building Model Party Branch” Honors such as “Star of Self Strengthening Chinese College Students”, “Merit Student of Beijing”, and the President’s Award of BUCT. In 2021, the college’s basketball team achieved historic victory in the top 4 of the CUBA national team. Our tennis and aerobics teams win 2 world championships almost annually. Some of our students have been recruited in the team of the Tokyo Olympics.

In recent years, faculties of the College have published nearly 300 academic papers, including 64 high-level A-journal papers and CSSCI papers. Four articles have been published in “Three Newspapers and One journal”. Fifty academic monographs have been published, among which works on corporate governance and Western philosophical criticism have been published by Cambridge University Press in the UK and Nomos Verlag in Germany. The “Beijing Business Card” series of books are collected by the British Library. Eighty-four competitive scientific research projects have been granted, including projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and Natural Science Fund, the Ministry of Education’s Humanities and Social Sciences Project, and the Beijing Social Science Fund. Our college has been awarded 6 provincial and ministerial level honors, including the second prize of the 15th Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Excellent Achievement Award, the first prize of the 12th Beijing Excellent Survey and Research Achievement Award, and the first prize of the Art Education Research Paper Selection of Universities in Beijing. The research outcome of think tanks have generated positive social benefits, among which 6 have been adopted or approved by provincial and ministerial level institutions.

The college actively promotes international exchange and cooperation, mainly through the Public Administration major’s partnership with Rutgers University in the US, and the English major’s exchange student project and 2+2 cooperative project with King’s College at Western University in Canada, to advance the “Global Partnership of the Top 100 Universities” plan and the “Belt and Road Initiative.” It has strengthened cooperation with renowned universities like the University of Birmingham and Ghent University in Belgium, expanding new international partnerships and further improving the level of international exchange and cooperation.

Our college actively promotes the work of serving the university and society. In recent years, we have organized the “Heart Bridge Project” and poverty alleviation through education, in which over 50 teachers participated. The Project has trained 17 cadres for the Kezuo Middle Banner (13 of whom have obtained degrees) and provided teaching support services to over 4, 000 local primary and secondary school students.
