The Department of Physical Education was established at the same time as Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) and is currently affiliated with the College of Humanities and Law. The department has always carried the responsibility of managing the physical education of BUCT, contributing to the cultivation of well-rounded, high-quality talents with comprehensive development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.
Currently, the department has a faculty of 27 members, including 18 with senior titles and 7 with intermediate titles. There are 5 PhD holders and 21 master's degree holders. Nine of the faculty members are national-level referees, who are key figures in various university sports associations across Beijing.
The department's work mainly revolves around the physical education in BUCT. They are responsible for the public physical education courses for over 8,000 students annually, offering nearly 20 different courses on sports. They have formed around 20 student amateur sports teams, leading these teams to represent BUCT in university sports events both in Beijing and nationwide, where they have achieved outstanding results. Each year, the department conducts the physical fitness standard test for nearly 16,000 students. The physical education in BUCT has gradually evolved into a multi-level mass sports activity system, with its amateur sports teams as leaders to guide student associations for the cultivation of elite athletes in various events. This approach, from focusing on specific points to covering broader groups, has steadily improved the overall physical health of the students in BUCT year by year.
