1. Overview
The Department of Social Sports, under the College of Humanities and Law, has established a comprehensive system covering academic dissemination, internal and external exchanges, international collaboration, research output, and talent development, through various forms of academic activities characterized by diversified participation, extensive exchange, in-depth research, and targeted talent cultivation.
2. Academic Dissemination & Conference Participation: High Frequency and Multi-level Engagement
The department demonstrates remarkable vitality in academic exchange. Faculty members have delivered over 20 academic lectures, organized three academic events, and participated in more than 10 sessions, and these activities have helped build an effective platform for academic sharing. Participation in academic conferences has been fruitful, with over 50 conferences attended in total, which include more than 10 national conferences, 1 provincial-level conference, over 10 discipline -level conferences in Physical Education, and approximately 20 other academic conferences. Collectively, these activities cover a wide range of research topics within sports science and indicating a high level of engagement within the academic community.
3. External Exchange & International Collaboration: Broad Vision and Extensive Connections
The footprint of external academic exchange spans both domestic and international arenas. The department has engaged in more than 10 external exchange activities across Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong Province, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and it has also reached overseas partners in countries such as Greece and Brazil. These activities support cross-regional and cross-cultural academic dialogue. International collaboration continues to grow. The department has hosted three visits from international guests and has built stronger channels for global academic exchange. In addition, faculty members have completed four overseas academic visits to institutions such as the University of Utah, Western Kentucky University (WKU), Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and the University of Zagreb (Croatia). These visits have strengthened academic cooperation and supported faculty development.

The department’s research focuses on the frontiers of sports science and practical needs, forming a distinctive research profile characterized by coordinated development across multiple fields. Representative research outputs span various directions, including fundamental sports theory, sports economics and industry, women and sports, school physical education, sports training, and exercise and health. Notable works include: Monopoly and Innovation: A New Economic Analysis of Contemporary Professional Sports; Psychological Experiments and Life; China Women’s Research Yearbook (Women and Sports); The Evolution of Values in Contemporary School Wushu Education and the Path for Value Manifestation in the New Era; Research on the Optimization of the Taijiquan Curriculum System in China’s Higher Physical Education Institutions; Chinese Boxing Sports Standards; and Research on the Health Efficacy of the Segway Balance Wheel Product. These works reflect a deep integration of theoretical research and practical application.
Over the years, the Department of Social Sports has strengthened its academic influence and educational quality through frequent and wide-ranging academic activities, open and diverse exchanges and collaborations, distinctive research achievements, and a well-structured talent cultivation system. These efforts embody the department’s development philosophy of being “discipline-rooted, internationally oriented, and practice-serving.”

Talent Cultivation: The Social Sports Guidance and Management program at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, established in 2008 has produced 13 cohorts of undergraduates, totaling over 680. In 2022, the program was accredited as a Beijing Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Program. Over the past 17 years, it has remained focused on its training objectives. It has developed three professional tracks: Sports Fitness and Guidance, Sports Industry Management, and Sports Rehabilitation. It has also built a curriculum system with four modules: Sports Education; Exercise and Sport Sciences; Sports Industry and Management; and Sports Skills and Development. In addition, the program offers interdisciplinary courses (e.g., Sports Materials Science), specialized courses (e.g., Winter Sports), and a number of internationalized courses. It has also established multiple practice and internship bases.
In recent years, students have represented the university in over 70 competitions at the Beijing municipal level or above, winning more than 20 team or individual championships or first prizes. The graduate employment rate has remained consistently between 90% and 99% for many years, indicating broad employment prospects. Annually, over 60% of graduates secure employment through various channels such as the Beijing or national civil service examinations, and recruitment for teaching positions in Beijing primary and secondary schools. In 2017 and 2023, the Department of Social Sports was honored as the university’s “Outstanding Contribution Team to Graduate Employment”. Over the past five years, the postgraduate admission rate for graduates has consistently been above 20%. In 2023, the graduation rate for further studies reached a historic high of 48% (including dual degree programs).
