1 Overview and Program Focus
Established in 1998, the Department of English offers a dedicated undergraduate program in English. Since 2020, this program has been recognized as a First-Class Undergraduate Program in Beijing. Our core mission is to foster and equip high-caliber, versatile English talents essential for China’s foreign affairs, various sectors involved in international business, foreign language education, and academic research.
2 Distinguished Faculty and Expertise
The department boasts a distinguished faculty of 14 teachers, including one foreign expert. Notably, all Chinese faculty members have completed study-abroad experiences of no less than six months.
The academic ranks include one Professor, seven Associate Professors, and six Lecturers. Their primary research interests span three key areas: English Literature, Translation Studies, and Linguistics & Applied Linguistics.
Our commitment to teaching excellence is recognized through numerous awards and honors, such as: Top Ten Teacher, Outstanding Young Lecturer, Outstanding Head Teacher, and Outstanding Supervisor of the Undergraduate Graduation Thesis at BUCT, as well as the Outstanding Supervisor of the Undergraduate Graduation Thesis in Beijing.
3 International Cooperation
To broaden students' academic horizons, the department has established significant international partnerships:
· Long-term Exchange Program (Tuition-Free)
· 2+2 Dual Degree Program
These programs are in cooperation with King’s College at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Through the 2+2 program, successful students are awarded a bachelor’s degree from both BUCT and the University of Western Ontario upon completion of the required credits.
4 Career Preparation and Internships
To ensure students are well-prepared for future careers in fields like translation and teaching, the department maintains stable cooperative relationships with various professional internship platforms, including:

· Beijing No. 15 Middle School
· The High School Affiliated to Beijing University of Chemical Technology

5 Student Achievements and Further Studies
The department is proud of its history of cultivating excellent students and highly qualified graduates.
· The pass rate for the TEM 4 and TEM 8 (Test for English Majors) examinations consistently significantly exceeds the average rates for both general universities and science & technology universities.
· Under faculty mentorship, our students have achieved national and regional distinction, securing prizes such as the First Prize in the National Finals of the FLTRP Cup English Debate Competition and the Second Prize in the National Finals of the FLTRP Cup English Speech Competition.
· The graduate school admission rate is maintained at approximately 40%.
· Top graduates have successfully pursued advanced studies at world-renowned universities both domestically and internationally, including: Peking University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Oxford University, New York University, and the University of Toronto.
