The English program has been approved as a first-class undergraduate program in Beijing. Its “International Writing Center” offers all teachers and students at BUCT writing instructions on research papers so as to serve the construction of a first-class university. The program is staffed with highly qualified teachers, who have studied abroad for no less than six months. The program has established a stable cooperative relationship with The World of English, a renounced periodical for English learning in China, to provide a high-level translation practice platform for English majors. Relying on the construction of “double first-class disciplines” at BUCT, the program pays close attention to the employment rate, the admission rate to the graduate school, and the pass rate of the TEM 4 and TEM 8 examinations. In an effort to broaden academic opportunities for students, the program has established a long-term “exchange program” (free tuition) and “2+2” cooperation program with King’s College of the University of Western Ontario, Canada, through which students are awarded a bachelor’s degree from both BUCT and the University of Western Ontario after obtaining the required credits. The program aims to cultivate high-end and all-round English talents needed for China’s foreign exchanges, various industries engaged in international business, foreign language education and academic research.
