BUCT Hosts “Beautifying Nature” Photography Exhibition by Academician Gao Jinjie and His First Lecture on Aesthetic Education

On the morning of April 30, Beijing University of Chemical Technology inaugurated the “Beautifying Nature” Photography Exhibition by Academician Gao Jinjie and the first lecture on aesthetic education by the academician at the Changping Campus. The event was attended by Liang Yongtu, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, and Gao Jinjie, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The ceremony was hosted by Zhang Jianwei, Dean of the School of Humanities and Law.

Vice President Liang Yongtu

Liang Yongtu highlighted that the Party and the government place great importance on aesthetic education. The General Offices of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have issued the “Opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening and Improving Aesthetic Education in Schools in the New Era,” and the Ministry of Education has released the “Notice on Fully Implementing the School Aesthetic Education Immersion Action,” which specifically outline plans for school aesthetic education.

Beijing University of Chemical Technology is committed to the principle of cultivating students through aesthetic education. As part of its 14th Five-Year Plan, the university has introduced the “Beautiful Soul Project” to develop a unique aesthetic education system. The “Beautifying Nature” Photography Exhibition by Academician Gao Jinjie and the lecture series on aesthetic education by the academician are concrete steps to fulfill these aesthetic education goals.

Liang Yongtu remarked that Academician Gao Jinjie has made outstanding contributions to fostering virtue, educating people, and supporting the nation's high-level technological self-reliance and strength. He encouraged the faculty and students to learn from Academician Gaos spirit as a scientist, artist, and educator, and to strive to explore the frontiers of science and the beauty of the humanities and arts. By doing so, they can contribute to the development of Chinas technology, art, and education.

After the ceremony, Academician Gao Jinjie delivered a special lecture titled “Pursuing Rigorous Beauty in Science and Art: Climbing to New Heights with Different Yet Complementary Approaches.” He shared insights from his personal experiences in education, scientific research, and artistic practice, focusing on the interplay between science and art.

The North Office, Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, Research and Development Department, Library, College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, College of Humanities and Law, along with representatives from various departments, faculty, and students, participated in the activity.

A brief introduction of Academician Gao Jinjie:

Gao Jinjie, an expert in equipment diagnosis and artificial self-healing engineering technology, is originally from Liaoning. He graduated from Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 1966 with a degree in chemical machinery and earned his Ph.D. in engineering from Tsinghua University in 1993. From 1988 to 1999, he served as Deputy Chief Engineer at China Petroleum's Liaoyang Petrochemical Company. Since 2000, he has been a professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, where he also served as Chair of the Academic Committee.

Gao has held prominent roles such as Chief Scientist and Technical Expert for various projects, including the 973 Program. He has also served as Deputy Director of the Special Equipment Expert Committee of the State Council Safety Production Committee and Chair of the Technical Committee at the China Industrial Internet Research Institute. He led his team to pioneer the development and application of equipment monitoring and diagnosis technology in China, creating a network monitoring and diagnosis system for pump groups, a vibration diagnosis software package, and a predictive maintenance system, all of which have yielded significant economic and social benefits.

He founded the Diagnosis and Self-Healing Engineering Research Center at Beijing University of Chemical Technology, where his team developed a data acquisition system and fault diagnosis expert system based on the industrial Internet. They established a remote monitoring and diagnosis center, providing real-time monitoring and diagnosis for key equipment at multiple enterprises, thereby preventing over a hundred major accidents.

In 2003, Gao was the first to propose the principle of self-healing for mechanical equipment faults internationally, achieving significant scientific and technological breakthroughs. He has published over 100 papers and authored two books, including “Diagnosis and Self-Healing of Machine Faults.” In 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Advanced Field of World Engineering Asset Management by the International Society of Engineering Asset Management (ISEAM). He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1999.
