Lecture Room 5 on the Chang Ping Campus observed the grand opening of the Mock Court of the Faculty of Humanities and Law at 8.40 p.m.on November 1.
There are six procedures in this mock court. Firstly, students are expected to give a brief introduction to the case and restore the crime scene through the video. The whole story is as follows: three students from Beijing University of Chemical Technology rode bicycles and bumped into one another, and then they fought together and the victim of the fight was injured and hospitalized for eight days. This is a criminal case sued by a prosecutor. The second step of the mock court is the “formal trial in the court of criminal crimes”, which is also the most appealing part of the mock court.  In this step, the following parts are involved: the court clerk announces the rules for trial in the court; the chief judge announces the relevant regulations; the prosecutors interrogate the accused; the defenders defend the accused; the witness provides the proof; the opinions of the prosecutors and the defenders will be presented; the accused makes the final statement; the collegial panel deliberates the opinions and pronounces the judgment in court. The whole process follows the legal court trial procedures strictly, which is objective, fair and convincing. The following  step is “The Judge’s Statement”, during which the relevant knowledge of law is interpreted helping the audience to have a clearer picture of the case and trial further. Then, the organizer of popularized the knowledge of law in the form of “Q & A”， and many students were stimulated by the abundant rewards to have a go, which made the atmosphere lively. In the end, Wang Zeng, the chairman of the Studnents’ Union of the Faculty of Humanities and Law, delivered a speech to appreciate the efforts made by the team of volunteers, and he also hoped that the students present will know more about law and put it into practice the notion of “to know the law, to obey the law, to understand the law and to use the law.”  The mock court redemonstrated the trial in court vividly so that students get to know about the procedures of it and the importance of understanding the law. Law is the art and tactics of fairness and conscience, and if there are no rules, there is no happiness. Law is to be obeyed by every citizen and regulates the behavior of every one, which lays a strategic foundation for ruling the country by law.
