Candlelight Supermarket Cup first-year graduates Basketball League has always been one of the important formsof graduate education in our university. This league tournament coincided with our theme education of the year, namely, to remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind. Chairman Xi Jinping pointed out in his speech at the National Education Conference that we should establish an ideal of education that prioritizes health to help students enjoy physical exercise, enhance their physique, cultivate their sound personality, and temper their will.

After the fierce competition for more than a month, the 2019 Candlelight Supermarket Cup for first-year graduates Basketball League of Beijing University of Chemical Technology came to an end at noon on the 18th. In the competition of men and women’s basketball league between the College of Humanities and Law (CHL) and the College of Information Science and Technology (CIST), the former made history and won in both the men's and women's basketball competition.

After the fierce semi-final, CHL and CIST met again in the final, presenting a wonderful peak duel for everyone. With the referee throwing the ball into the air, the defensive counterattack on the men's basketball field and the wonderful confrontation of positional warfare were officially staged. With the ball flying back and forth, both teams spared no effort in defending their own territory.

In the first quarter, CIST had a slight advantage in the score by virtue of flexible passing and fast break with the ball of the main players, and the men's basketball team of CHL did not give full play to its strength under the close suppression of its opponents. During the timeout, No. 8 from CHL rearranged the tactics, led everyone to be braver, so that they frequently succeeded in offensive rebounds and superb ball control, which won them bursts of applause from the spectators. No. 6 moved into free space and staged a slam dunk, which thrilled all the spectators. The men’s basketball team from CIST was also unwilling to be outdone. They actively moved into free space. With teammates’ pick and roll assist, their offensive firepower was still unabated.

In the last quarter, the physical strength of both sides decreased.  No. 15, No. 9 and No. 3 from CHL gritted their teeth and persevered. With the ingenious cooperation, they continued to strengthen their defense under the encouragement of No. 21. They moved into free space and succeeded in perimeter shot many times, widening the scoring gap to more than 10. Then, a spectacular three-point shot from No. 77 electrified all the spectators. CIST still didn't give up, fighting hard to defend, and their shooting percentage was also rising, but unfortunately, they failed to turn the tide in the end.

In the final of the women's basketball, the players of both sides became proactive very soon. They fought fiercely and did not give in to each other, the smell of gunpowder being pungent. CIST led 8:2 in the first quarter, but CHL actively changed tactics. Under the leadership of No. 36 and No. 13, they gradually tied the score with tacit cooperation and pick and roll assist. Then the game entered a heated stage. With the advantage of better height, No. 30 from CIST scored frequently, which made their team lead slightly by 16:14. At that time, there was only one and a half minutes left.

At the last moment, No. 36 and No. 13 from CHL burst with energy, broke through the tight defense, completed a beautiful three-step layup and hit in the middle, and scored another four points, exciting all the spectators. In the last half minute, No. 13 used her teammates' pick and roll assist to move into free space and scored another goal under the basket and completed buzzer beater.

In the competition, the team of CHL not only won honors for the college, but also showed the sport spirit of cooperation and bravery, further enhancing the cohesion and collective sense of honor. With their tenacious fighting spirit on the field, the players from the two colleges never gave up and presented a visual feast to the spectators. After the game, the players from the two teams took turns to shake hands. Their game was based on friendship, and they perfectly presented the positive, healthy and upbeat spirit of our graduates.

With its unique advantages in sports, CHL provided strong organization, guidance and logistic support for their players. The players also overcame the difficulties such as high academic pressure and packed curriculum. They not only actively participated in the game and strengthened their body, but also enjoyed sports competition.

The annual Candlelight Supermarket Cup graduate freshman Basketball League is hosted by the Graduate Work Department of the Party Committee and undertaken by the University Graduate Association. At the same time, it has also received abundant support from CHL and the School Logistics Group (Candlelight Supermarket) in terms of venue and prize setting.

Congratulations to CHL on winning championship in both men's and women's basketball competition! We hope that they will make unremitting efforts to achieve more brilliance!
