The 6th National Collegiate Energy and Power Academic English Summit concluded successfully on June 1, 2024. This event was co-sponsored by North China Electric Power University, the Beijing High-Tech University Alliance, and the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. The summit's theme was Green Development, Smart Solutions - Supporting the Dual Carbon Goal and Building a New Energy System, covering a variety of pertinent subtopics.
Since the commencement of the competition, faculty members from the College of Humanities and Law, as well as the College of Chemical Engineering, have been working relentlessly with the candidates for two months to prepare for this Summit. Their support encompassed everything from topic selection and academic paper writing to PPT production, script finalization, rehearsals, and final presentation preparation. Ultimately, 19 individuals and teams from our university made it to the final round. After intense competition, our students achieved outstanding results, securing 1 special prize, 2 second prizes, 4 third prizes, and 11 excellence awards.
The special prize winner, Pan Zijun from Class 2205 in the Department of Automation, admitted that the award was the result of teamwork and collective effort from both teachers and students. He gave a special shoutout to Mrs. Liu Enhua, his college English teacher, for her dedicated coaching and guidance throughout the whole process. He also thanked his teammates for their strong support and cooperation. Pan noted that the team plans to keep working hard and aiming for even more breakthroughs in the future.
The school will seize this competition as an opportunity to advance teaching reforms within the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of English. Such competitions are an excellent way to motivate students, particularly in enhancing their academic communication skills and ability to engage in interdisciplinary research.
