Secretary Zhang Liang and His Team Visits the “The World of English” Magazine
On June 27, Secretary Zhang Liang from the College of Humanities and Law and his team paid a visit to the “The World of English” magazine for research and exchange, so as to further strengthen school-enterprise cooperation, deepen exchanges, and improve the quality of talent training. The team was received by the Editor-in-chief and Vice-President of “The World of English”, Mr. Xing Sanzhou, editorial director Gao Xinxin, and editors Zhao Ling, Nan Yuzi and Zhang Shuo.
Editor-in-chief Xing Sanzhou first extended a warm welcome to Secretary Zhang Liang and his delegation on behalf of the magazine. Reflecting on the growth of “The World of English” since its inception in 1981, Editor-in-chief Xing presented the magazine’s development history through major milestones. He highlighted how, amidst the widespread adoption of the internet and rapid advances in digital technology, the magazine has risen to the challenges. While actively embracing new media, the editorial team has remained committed to the magazine’s original goal of “high quality”. He also introduced the magazine’s initiatives in organizing translation competitions and establishing translation practice bases, sharing successful experiences and valuable explorations in the field of English learning.
Secretary Zhang Liang introduced the College of Humanities and Law from various aspects, including talent cultivation, discipline development, distinctive educational features, and the construction of a foreign language talent team. Leveraging the school’s intellectual resources, he discussed new points of growth for cooperation with the magazine from the perspectives of information technology and interdisciplinary studies. Zhang Ju, vice-chair of the English department, expressed gratitude to the editor-in-chief and editors at the magazine. Through vivid examples, she illustrated the significant role the magazine has played in expanding students’ classroom knowledge, guiding their career planning, and leading them to grow and succeed. She also expressed hope for deeper future cooperation with the magazine. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee from the College of Humanities and Law, Li Haiyong, discussed and exchanged ideas on job expansion and practical education, focusing on the employment situation of graduates.
During the talk, both sides affirmed the results achieved from the previous cooperation between the magazine and the English department. They unanimously agreed to continue leveraging their respective advantages and further deepen their “win-win” cooperation. Moving forward, the College of Humanities and Law will further capitalize on its professional strengths, expand practical education platforms, and strive to elevate the quality of talent cultivation and professional development to a new level.
Introduction to “The World of English”
“The World of English” was founded in 1981, overseen by the China Publishing Group and published by the Commercial Press Co., Ltd., with the “The World of English” Magazine Co., Ltd. responsible for editing and publishing. Adhering to the purpose of “broadening horizons through literature and delighting the soul through translation,” the magazine caters to university teachers and students as well as other English enthusiasts. It is a reading and learning publication and is the first English-Chinese bilingual English learning magazine in the People’s Republic of China. From its inception, the magazine invited renowned authors and translators to contribute, laying the foundation for its high quality. It has received several national awards, including the “Editing and Proofreading Quality Award”, “Top 100 National Key Social Science Journals Award”, and the “China Journal Award Nomination”. Additionally, it has frequently won industry awards such as the “Journal Honor Award” and “Excellent Editor Award”. In 2009, it was named one of the “Influential Journals of New China in 60 Years” and made into “Fine Journals Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.”
