On May 20, 2025, a delegation led by Zhu Kaiming, Director of the Physical Education Department at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), visited the College of Humanities and Law at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) for an in-depth seminar. The exchange focused on exploring innovative pathways for reforming university physical education, strengthening academic program development, and enhancing management efficiency. Participants from BUCT included Dean Zhang Jianwei, Associate Dean Zheng Yanyang, Physical Education Department Director Liu Yong, Director of the Social Sports Guidance and Management Program Sun Ge, as well as key faculty representatives. The seminar was chaired by Director Liu Yong.

Strengthening Academic Programs and Shaping the Future of University Sports

Dean Zhang Jianwei warmly welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of leveraging both institutions’ strengths to foster multifaceted cooperation in sports education. He expressed hopes for jointly developing new models for university sports in the new era.

Director Sun Ge provided an overview of the achievements of the Social Sports Guidance and Management Program, which was recognized as a Beijing Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Program in 2021. The program has established a distinctive talent development framework covering sports instruction, sports rehabilitation, and sports economics and management. It has also introduced innovative courses such as roller skating. In terms of practical education, the program has made significant strides through initiatives like the establishment of the “China Open” Practice Base and volunteer teaching projects in underdeveloped regions. As a result, it has consistently achieved some of the highest undergraduate employment and graduate enrollment rates within the university in recent years.

Innovating Educational Management and Exploring New Pathways

During the seminar, Director Liu Yong outlined key initiatives of BUCT’s Physical Education Department, including curriculum development, the optimization of the course selection system, and the management of over 20 varsity teams that regularly participate in competitions organized by the Beijing Collegiate Sports Association. He also discussed current challenges facing the department and identified key areas for improvement.

Director Zhu Kaiming shared BUPT’s best practices in faculty development, efficient utilization of sports facilities, and athletic team management. He presented innovative strategies for cultivating a dynamic campus sports culture and engaged in an in-depth dialogue with BUCT counterparts on improving the effectiveness of physical fitness assessments.

Advancing Research Innovation and Faculty Development

During the exchange, Dean Zhang Jianwei and the BUPT delegation discussed research expectations for university physical education faculty, high-performance sports teams, and sustainable funding strategies. Director Zhu Kaiming noted that BUPT employs an integrated funding management model and encourages faculty to publish academic papers annually, which are compiled into shared internal publications. He also highlighted BUPT’s interdisciplinary research combining sports science with artificial intelligence, capitalizing on BUPT’s strengths in technology.

This exchange provided fresh perspectives for advancing sports education innovation at both institutions. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to using this seminar as a foundation for deeper collaboration, jointly exploring new strategies to advance high-quality university sports development in the new era, and contributing to the cultivation of well-rounded talents with moral integrity, intellectual depth, physical fitness, aesthetic sensibility, and practical skills.
