Summer practice of Postgraduate Students from the school of Humanities and Law of BUCT: The walking ideological and Political courses rooted in Xiong’an to decode the original aspiration and Responsibility of the “City of the Future”

From July 23rd to July 25th, 2025, a postgraduate team from the College of Humanities and Law at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) launched a themed summer social practice team titled “The walking ideological and Political courses” in Xiong’an New Area. The team successively visited Baiyangdian Lake, Jingcong Community in Anxin County, and the Xiong’an Impression Exhibition Hall, embarking on a multifaceted journey of ecological observation, social service, and regional development exploration.

The first stop was Baiyangdian, known as the “Kidney of North China”. Students visited the Yanling Team Memorial Hall, Gazi Village, and the Literature Hall of Hehuadian School in a chronological order. Through these visits, they gained a comprehensive understanding of Xiong’an New Area’ s ecological construction and sustainable development plans, experiencing visually how the concept of “eco-priority and green development” has been implemented into real practice. The team also popularized the national strategy of coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region to the tourists.

At the Yanling Team Memorial Hall, through yellowed historical photos, revolutionary relics, and detailed archival materials, team members systemically chronicle the heroism of Yanling Team fighters during the War of Resistance Against Japan, fostering a profound appreciation for the enduring legacy of revolutionary spirit which transcends time and space. In Gazi Village, the traditional architecture and ubiquitous red cultural symbols enabled team members to gain a straightforward and profound understanding of the region’s revolutionary cultural heritage. At the Literature Hall of Hehuadian School, members had learned about the development path of the literary school since it was born, and was deeply amazed by the writers’ artistic philosophies and literary spirits.

The practice team also exchanged with the Communist Youth League of Anxin County of this summer practice and conducted an info-session titled “Cybersecurity Guide for University Students” at Jingcong Community. Focusing on the growing threat of online scams targeting college students, members of the practice team used deliberately prepared cases to explain how to identify scams, to apply prevention techniques, and to take countermeasures when being targeted. The interactive session was filled with a lively atmosphere, our members actively responded, further strengthening the audience’ awareness of fraud prevention and self-protection. “This lecture was so timely, many of the scam tactics were unheard of, and I feel more confident to be on guard now,’’ said one college student attendee. This event not only provided the community college students with practical knowledge, but enhanced the team members communication skills and sense of responsibility and accountability through social service.

The next morning, to gain a deeper understanding of the national strategic vision of Xiong’ an New Area, the practice team visited the Xiong’an Impression Exhibition Hall. There, students observed how the city is breaking conventional urban development boundaries from its globally pioneering “cluster-based” urban layout to the three-dimensional plan of “one city above, one city below, and one city in the cloud,” from low carbon commitment of 100% coverage of green buildings to blockchain-empowered governance platforms. Members were deeply moved by the spirit of Xiong’an’ s constructors who exemplify the motto: “The success may not necessarily belong to me, but I will surely contribute to it.” The visit reaffirmed the practice research members’ understanding of why Xiong’ an New Area has been designated a millennium plan and a national priority.”

This summer research trip to Xiong’ an was an important chapter of the “walking ideological and political coueses” for the postgraduate practice team. It enabled the members to understand that Xiong’an is not only a key site for relieving non-capital functions of Beijing, but also a new engine for innovation-driven development, a demonstration zone for green practices, and a new highland  for open development. From the ecological splendor of Baiyangdian, to the teach-in session of Jingcong Community and the profound memory of Xiong’an impression exhibition hall, each stop highlighted that coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area is not only a reshaping in economy, but a comprehensive upgrade of development ideas, ecological environment and social governance.

As young practitioners, the postgraduates from the College of Humanities and Law will take this journey as a starting point to continuously explore how to transfer national strategies into practical paths, to turn the findings into youthful intelligence and support coordinated collaboration. In doing so, they will give full expression to their sense of mission and make “walking ideological and political education” a growth platform for skill-honing and belief strengthening.
