College of Humanities and Law Successfully Hosts “Distinguished Scholars Forum on Humanities and Social Sciences”
To further strengthen the University’s humanities and social sciences research capacity and enhance faculty members’ academic and research competence, the Distinguished Scholars Forum on Humanities and Social Sciences of Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) was successfully held on October 31 at the Qiuzhen Lecture Hall, Changping Campus. The forum was hosted by the Institute of Science and Technology Development and organized by the College of Humanities and Law. Professor Zhang Youlang, Vice Dean of the College of Public Administration, Renmin University of China, was invited to deliver a keynote lecture titled “High-Quality Paper Writing and Journal Publication.”

Over 300 participants, including all Party members from the North Campus Office and Construction Office, leaders from the Institute of Science and Technology Development, members of the College’s leadership team, Party branch secretaries, heads of departments and research bases, as well as teachers and students from the North Campus, attended the event. The forum was chaired by Associate Dean Professor Xu Jun.

In his report, Professor Zhang discussed three main aspects. He shared his personal research experience with an exploration into key research areas in the humanities and social sciences, and elaborated on effective approaches to academic research and writing. He emphasized the importance of mastering appropriate research methodologies and maintaining academic independence in the era of artificial intelligence. In addition, Professor Zhang offered practical advice on common challenges faced by teachers and students in paper writing and journal publication.
During the Q&A session, both faculty members and students actively engaged in discussions, creating a strong academic atmosphere. The forum provided a valuable platform for face-to-face scholarly exchange between teachers, students, and distinguished experts, offering meaningful guidance for advancing humanities and social science research at BUCT.
Speaker Profile:
Zhang Youlang is a Professor and Associate Dean at the College of Public Administration, Renmin University of China. He has been selected for a national-level young talents program. His research focuses on the policy process, public administration, and government–citizen interaction. He has published over 50 papers in leading journals such as Management World, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration Review, Governance, Public Administration, and Policy Studies Journal. He is also the author of two monographs published by Cambridge University Press and Routledge.
