BUCT Academic Affairs Delegation Visits the College of Humanities and Law for an In-Depth Study on Undergraduate Education
On November 7, Professor Liu Qingya, Director of the Office of Academic Affairs, led a delegation to the College of Humanities and Law to conduct an in-depth research visit on undergraduate talent cultivation. The delegation included Deputy Director Hou Hong, Director of the Admissions Office Li Qing, and relevant staff from the Office of Academic Affairs. Attendees from the College of Humanities and Law included Party Secretary Zheng Xiuying; Vice Deans Xue Changli and Zheng Yanyang; Deputy Party Secretary Ren Feng; faculty representatives from the Departments of Law, English, Physical Education, and University Foreign Languages; faculty from the Social Sports Guidance and Management program; and teaching administrators. The session was chaired by Vice Dean Xue Changli.

During the meeting, Zhang Hongbing, Director of the Department of University Foreign Languages, reported on research progress since May and presented plans and initiatives for the “15th Five-Year Plan” period regarding foreign language tiered teaching, teaching model reform, and online learning platform development. Zhang Ju, Head of the English Program, focused on ongoing efforts to optimize the curriculum system, strengthen faculty development, and enhance students’ intercultural communication competence. Liu Yong, Director of the Department of Physical Education, and Sun Ge, Head of the Social Sports Guidance and Management program, reported on reforms in general physical education, progress in applying for the Sports Training program, management of high-level athletes, and promotion of campus sports culture. Li Chao, Deputy Director of the Department of Law, shared findings from the law program’s recent research, discussed strategies to improve student employment, and analyzed challenges and countermeasures facing the program.
Director Liu and her team listened carefully to each report and held in-depth discussions with participants on specific issues. Director Liu fully affirmed the School’s efforts and interim results in educational reform and innovation in talent-training models. She offered a thorough analysis of issues related to public instruction, program development, and faculty building, and proposed practical recommendations. She emphasized the need to keep optimizing talent-training schemes that align closely with national strategic needs and the frontiers of industry, integrate with the broader chemical-engineering ecosystem to highlight its distinctive strengths, and explore new pathways for cultivating multidisciplinary talent. She also stressed the importance of supporting young and mid-career faculty with more development platforms, and encourage their engagement in teaching research and instructional innovation for better overall teaching quality.
In conclusion, Party Secretary Zheng Xiuying expressed heartfelt appreciation to Professor Liu and her team for their visit and constructive guidance. She noted that the visit had provided valuable direction and consensus for the College in developing its undergraduate talent training plan for the “15th Five-Year Plan” period and improving the quality of undergraduate education. The College will earnestly implement the university’s guidance, intensify teaching reform, and promote the sustained high-quality development of its undergraduate education.
