On April 12, 2026, the 18th Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot was successfully held. A team from the College of Humanities and Law at Beijing University of Chemical Technology took part in the CIETAC China (Mainland) Pre-Moot, engaging with teams from universities at home and abroad. Through rigorous English-language pleadings and professional exchange, the BUCT team earned the Merit Award, gaining valuable practical experience and further strengthening their legal expertise.

The Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot is a highly regarded competition in the fields of international investment law and international arbitration. Conducted entirely in English, the moot problem centers on cutting-edge issues in investment arbitration and demands strong command of legal knowledge, English advocacy, and analytical reasoning. The competition provides an important international platform for law students to engage in professional exchange and practical training.

The BUCT team was coached by Ms. Zhao Huimiao and Ms. Chang Liuxi, with Wang Heqiao serving as team leader. Kang Ziwen, Cao Zhaorui, Chen Yuhui, and Jin Huanchang appeared as oralists, while Wang Yajie, Yue Hongyu, Cao Jiarui, and Li Yinghan supported the team as researchers. During preparation, the coaches offered meticulous guidance, the team leader ensured logistical coordination, and team members worked collaboratively in their spare time to analyze the case, draft and refine memorials, and conduct intensive mock hearings—overcoming challenges related to all-English preparation and complex legal reasoning through dedication and rigor.

During the competition, the team participated with composure, demonstrated their professional training, and responded actively to the competition procedures and on-site questions. In exchanges with teams from Sun Yat-sen University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, and Shandong University, the students identified areas for improvement and learned from their peers. With their solid performance, they ultimately received the Merit Award.

Participation in this international moot court competition marked a valuable step for BUCT law students to move beyond the classroom and engage with global legal practice. The experience not only consolidated their professional foundations but also enhanced their practical skills and cross-cultural communication abilities, while contributing useful experience to the College’s practice-oriented legal education. The College will continue to encourage students to take part in professional competitions, promoting learning through competition and training through practice, and steadily enhancing comprehensive legal competence.
